 Our Learning This Week:

We have been working on looking at the attributes of 2-D shapes in Math and building our math vocabulary with words like octagon, rhombus and perimeter.  Ms. Cardone read a story called "You Hold Me Up" by Monique Gray Smith.  There was a beautiful discussion on how the people in our lives hold us up. Please visit the google classroom to see Monique read this book.  Today, we had SO much fun making pretty paper based on the illustrations from Eric Carle.

Fun Snack is a monthly treat that the children always look forward to.  I just want to make sure that all parents saw the email that was sent home earlier this week from the school council.  If you missed it, I have it below:

  Our Learning This Week:     We focused on writing a simple sentence.  We learned that finger spaces between the words are very important to help us read the sentence.  We also talked about starting a sentence with an upper-case letter and ending it with a period.  In Math, we are beginning to explore measurement.  We talked about the terms "short" and "tall" being words referring to "height".  We used this vocabulary in a project where we used our shoes to help us understand the real height of a typical bison. (See photo above) Thank You! Soft and squishy playdough was donated by Troy, Adrien, Victoria,  Arabelle and Oliver.    Our Learning This Week:   One of our most popular songs this year was the Banana Song.  This week we learned an important life lesson, which involved a real banana.  We realized that when you open a banana, you can't seal it back up.  We tried.... we used tape, glue and a stapler, but nothing was successful.  When a banana is open, it's open and you can't close it.  The same idea is with our words... when you speak, you can't take back your words.  The life lesson we learned is:   Think before you speak!  (If you want to check out our video of this lesson, it is on the google classroom) In Math, we focused on number order.  We played a game called "One, Two" and the children were very good sports about when they had to sit down.  We also went outside to do some Nature math, which involved creating sets of five.  We figured out that 20 sets of 5 equals 100!  We are getting a head-start on grade one Math!!!...
