  Our Learning This Week:

We are continuing to learn the letter names and SOUNDS of the alphabet.  We have finished up our patterns unit and we will begin to focus on numbers one to five.  We dive deep into these numbers by exploring how to represent them in a variety of ways, such as using pictures, tallies, numbers, number sentences, words and dots.  Please visit our google classroom to see more of what we learn in kindergarten!


Our visit from Ms. White: 


She reminded the children about the importance of ALWAYS using the crosswalk when crossing the street.

Thursday Oct 29 - PUMPKINFEST!

 

Families are invited to carve pumpkins at home and bring them to "Mrs. Laser's Pumpkin Patch" on the morning of

Oct. 29. Our class will have a sign for our area. It is close to the natural playground, which is the enclosed area

with log seats.

Students will take their pumpkin home after school on Oct 29. The students will be dismissed from the pumpkin patch to make the transition easier.



The Kinders have been really enthusiastic about learning the Zones of Regulation.  It would be fun to consolidate their learning if families could tie the Zones of Regulation into their pumpkin carving experience.  Please talk to your child about the emotions in the four zones and pick one to represent with their pumpkin.  Here are the Zones:

Red:  Angry, Mad,  Aggressive, Yelling, Out of Control

Yellow: Jealous, Surprised, Anxious, Silly,  Confused

Blue:  Sad, Tired, Upset, Sick, Bored

Green: Calm, Good, Ready to Learn, Content,  Proud, Happy


Please identify the zone of the pumpkin with a sign to accompany it or paint the pumpkin the zone color.


Children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Thursday October 29 if they wish.

  Our Learning This Week:   We have been enjoying a lot of holiday art this week.  We created some unique and interesting snow people, which you can see in our window facing outwards.  We have also been busy working on a family gift, which will hopefully go under your tree.   In Math, we are continuing to look at patterns, 2-D shapes and breaking up numbers, specifically the numbers six and seven.  In gym, we had a lot of fun using scooters, running, stretching and moving in a variety of ways. A "Blue Zone" Good-Bye:   Our fabulous student teacher, Ms. Cardone, will be having her last day with us on Friday, Dec. 11.  Fortunately, we can be in the "green zone" when we think about her returning to us for another eight weeks in the middle of February. Our class continues to love the zones of regulation and accurately uses these terms to describe emotions.  Our bulletin board has been very engaging to all who walk by our classroom. Our Learning This Week:   The students had a lot of fun using geoboards and elastics to create 2-D shapes.  The students are eager to expand their math vocabulary with terms like;  hexagon, pentagon, octagon and decagon.   We also focused on s t r e t c h i n g the words we want to write.  Children are encouraged to listen for the beginning, middle and end sounds of words.  Students were all so excited about the festive holiday centers Ms. Cardone created for December.    Our Learning This Week:   One of our most popular songs this year was the Banana Song.  This week we learned an important life lesson, which involved a real banana.  We realized that when you open a banana, you can't seal it back up.  We tried.... we used tape, glue and a stapler, but nothing was successful.  When a banana is open, it's open and you can't close it.  The same idea is with our words... when you speak, you can't take back your words.  The life lesson we learned is:   Think before you speak!  (If you want to check out our video of this lesson, it is on the google classroom) In Math, we focused on number order.  We played a game called "One, Two" and the children were very good sports about when they had to sit down.  We also went outside to do some Nature math, which involved creating sets of five.  We figured out that 20 sets of 5 equals 100!  We are getting a head-start on grade one Math!!!
